General description of the collection: The William M. Belote photograph collection consists of photographs of Corregidor Island and the concrete Fort Drum from construction to WWII. Battle and occupation by the Japanese to the retaking of both installations by the American Army in 1945 are included. Photos show the island with native Filipinos before construction; numerous construction photos from the clearing of the land to the progressive development of the island as a military installation to its occupation and use; and captured Japanese photos showing the take over and occupation by the Japanese. Photos of the bombing of the island by U.S. Army Air Forces (USAAF) and U.S. Army paratroopers retaking the island in February 1945 are found within the collection.
